Outdoor Warning System Test Friday at 2:30 p.m.

UT Tyler will conduct the monthly test of its outdoor warning siren system at about 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2009. The test will begin with a voice message, followed by a series of tones, including a three-minute continuous tone, and conclude with an “all clear” message. This sequence may occur multiple times.

This monthly test is necessary to ensure that the outdoor warning siren system is working properly and that the system will be fully functional if needed during an emergency on campus.

The outdoor warning system allows for both tone and voice alerts to the campus and will be activated whenever there is an immediate danger to the UT Tyler campus. When the sirens are activated, people should not call the University Police Department or Tyler Police, but move to a safe place and obtain further information which will be released by text and e-mail messages, the University web site, and the news media.

The test will last for approximately five minutes. In the event the National Weather Service issues watches or warnings for Smith County during the time period of the test, the system will not be tested.
