|A message from UT TYLER|
As most of you are aware, during Fall 2012 we had a parking space shortage at the beginning of the semester. Due to this shortage, we began utilizing non-traditional parking areas to accommodate those who could not find spaces. As you are also aware, we were able to create additional temporary areas for parking and regain space that we lost due to striping errors.
Due to the initial problems last semester, we utilized a relaxed enforcement strategy for those parking in non-traditional parking spaces, even after the shortage was remedied. However, we are now in the Spring semester and many persons are parking in areas not designated for parking, even though there are numerous empty parking spaces on campus. One area, for example, that continues to be utilized is the curbed area in Lot 2 near the Herrington Patriot Center. Daily, cars are being parking along the curb, many times extending almost to Old Omen Road.
Due to there being no shortage in parking a this time, we will begin writing parking tickets for those parked in all areas not designated for parking. This strict enforcement will begin on Monday February 25, 2013.
I will remind everyone that it is best practice to arrive early to find a parking space. You should allow yourself ample time for walking in the case that you have to use one of the more remote lots. Lots 15 and 18 are accessible from Spur 248 at Lake Drive. Even during peak periods this semester, these lots have had ample available spaces.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
