Partial Telephone Outage Tonight 9:00 PM

A message from UT TYLER EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS (PATRIOTALERT)

University Community:

Tonight, Wednesday October 2, the University is conducting a telephone system upgrade. This will require a temporary shutdown of inbound and outbound calls for a period of time beginning at 9:00 p.m. A 3-hour time frame has been allotted for the process but we anticipate it will actually be a much shorter time period.

During the outage, from campus phones, you will not be able to dial outbound. However, you will still be able to reach on-campus parties by dialing campus 4-digit extensions.

How will this affect your ability to reach the campus police department or other emergency services?

1) You WILL NOT be able to dial 9-1-1 from a campus telephone during the shutdown.
2) You WILL be able to reach the UT Tyler Police Department from a campus phone by dialing the 7300 extension.
3) Emergency blue light phones WILL be functional during the shutdown.
4) Elevator alarms WILL be functional.
5) The shutdown WILL NOT affect campus housing telephone systems.

The Police Department will utilize a cellular phone during the shutdown. We will be able to dial 9-1-1, make outgoing calls, and receive incoming calls on the cellular phone. If you need to call the UT Tyler Police Department using your cellular phone, the number to reach us is (903) 520-7404.

When all systems are back online we will send an email to the campus community.

Thank you,

Mike Medders

PatriotALERT Test

A message from UT TYLER EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS (PATRIOTALERT)

TEST TEST TEST
PATRIOTALERT EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM
TEST TEST TEST

This is a test of the PatriotALERT emergency notification service for The University of Texas at Tyler.  This is not an emergency.

In the event of an emergency, all students, faculty and staff will be notified by a combination of email and voice messages using PatriotALERT. The system will be used to distribute important information regarding emergencies that dictate immediate action, like tornado warnings or an active shooter on campus.

If you have not done so, we strongly encourage students to go to the myUT Tyler student portal and update your telephone contact information. If your information is not updated, we will not be able to contact you in an emergency. Your cell phone number is the most important number to provide. Because students, faculty and staff are constantly on the move, this system provides the flexibility for you to receive emergency messages on multiple devices. More information can be found at http://www.uttyler.edu/emergency/patriotalert/. Employees can also go to the web site for instructions on how to update their contact information.

Remember, if you are in class or in your dorm room, PatriotALERT may be the only way you receive notification of an emergency on campus. This is why it is important that you keep your contact information updated.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to ensure your safety on the UT Tyler campus.

END OF TEST MESSAGE
