Exercise Concluded

A message from UT TYLER EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS (PATRIOTALERT)

The police training exercise on campus has concluded. Thanks to the campus community for cooperating in this successful event as we work to make the campus safer!

Police Exercise on Campus Today

A message from UT TYLER EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS (PATRIOTALERT)

The University of Texas at Tyler Police Department and Office of Emergency Management, along with the city of Tyler Police Department, will be conducting a full-scale armed intruder exercise today from approx. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

There will be increased police presence on campus for the duration of the exercise.

Red and black “Police Training Exercise in Progress” signs will be placed at all entrances and exits to the campus.  These signs will also be placed at various locations throughout campus.

Police dispatchers will have a code word that will be used for exercise communications.  Therefore, real, actual calls coming in to the police department during the exercise will be answered and handled as normal.   Due to the manpower involved in the exercise, there may be a delay in responding to non-emergency calls, but they will be responded to.

During the exercise, which may also test the emergency notification systems, you may receive text/email/phone calls from the messaging systems.  These messages will be prefaced with “UT Tyler” and will state that this is a test of the emergency messaging system.  If the audible outdoor and indoor warning systems are activated during the exercise, they too will be activated in test mode.

Although these exercise notifications are meant to be delivered to the entire campus community, there will be some who may not receive notice prior to Monday.  If, during the exercise persons without knowledge of the exercise are indicating such, please help us by informing them that the exercise is taking place.

Actionable events related to the exercise will be confined to a few specific areas on campus.  If you have not been notified that the exercise will involve your particular building, or area, then it most likely will not.  However, there is always the possibility that the action event could traverse your area.  We plan to cause as few disruptions as possible to the normal campus activities.

Thank you for your support and cooperation as we work to make our campus a safer place!
