UT Tyler Timely Warning Notification
As required by the Jeanne Clery Crime Statistics Disclosure Act, the University of Texas at Tyler Police Department is issuing the following Timely Warning Notification. Today, Monday, October 12, 2015, The University of Texas at Tyler Police Department received notification from a Campus Security Authority that an alleged sexual assault had occurred in the vicinity of the University of Texas at Tyler. The alleged victim, who is not a member of the UT Tyler campus community, has not come forward to report the offense, so information at this time is limited.
According to the Campus Security Authority, on Sunday October 11, 2015 at approximately 3:00 a.m., the victim was walking in the area of Old Omen and McDonald Road. A white extended cab pickup occupied by three males pulled alongside, and the victim was offered a ride. After entering the vehicle, the victim reported being sexually assaulted by at least one of the occupants. The victim was then reportedly dropped off at or near the main entrance of the University. The only suspect description provided to police at this time is that two of the vehicle occupants were white males. Anyone having information regarding this alleged offense is encouraged to report that information to University Police by calling (903) 566-7300 or to the Tyler Police Department at (903) 531-1000.
Members of the campus community are encouraged to always walk with a friend or in a group. If you must walk alone, always have a plan of action and do not accept rides from anyone you do not know. Put the Police Department phone number in your cell phone and take advantage of the many services the University Police Department offers such as the Safe Walk Program and the RAVE Guardian smartphone app. These services can be accessed at www.uttyler.edu/police or by calling (903) 566-7300.
