UT Tyler Urges Campus to Take Flu Precautions

The University of Texas at Tyler encourages all members of the campus community to follow several simple measures to reduce the possible transmission of all flu viruses:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

Symptoms of swine flu are similar to seasonal flu, including fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. Seek medical attention early, as medications may help reduce the severity of the illness. If you are sick with influenza, you should stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. The majority of the patients with this flu have reported that the symptoms are mild and they have recovered fully.
