Timely Notification Bulletin - Attempted Sexual Assault

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the University of Texas at Tyler Police Department is issuing the following timely notification bulletin:

On Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at approximately 9:10 p.m., a female was jogging on Varsity Drive at Old Omen Road when she was assaulted by an unknown offender. The female reported that the offender in this case grabbed her and attempted to drag her toward the tree line between Old Omen Road and parking lot 7. The offender began groping the victim’s vaginal area and breasts. The victim screamed several times. A passing motorist noticed the incident taking place and slowed down. At that time, the offender released the victim and ran from the scene toward parking lot 7.

The offender in this case is described as follows:

Black male, approximately 20 years of age clean shaven, 5'1” - 5'3” with a skinny build and weighing less than 150 pounds;

Clothing: The offender was described as wearing dark pants, oversized plain white t-shirt, beige ball cap, and wearing some type of identification lanyard around his neck.

Persons having information about this crime are urged to report their information to the University of Texas at Tyler Police Department at (903) 566-7300 or the Tyler Police Department at (903) 531-1000.

As a matter of safety and precaution, walk or jog with a partner. Persons walking or jogging alone are more susceptible to being attacked. Stay in well-lighted areas and immediately report and suspicious persons or activity to police. If you are attacked, do as the victim did in this case and scream loudly.
