A message from UT TYLER

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the University of Texas at Tyler Police Department is issuing the following timely notification bulletin:

On 9-23-12, a shooting occurred in the immediate area of the UT Tyler campus.  Initial information is that the victim was injured as a result of several rounds being fired at his or her vehicle by unknown offenders.  Offender vehicle descriptions include a white Chevrolet Impala and a gray SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe.  Apparently, the incident began on McDonald Road and continued onto Old Omen Road and then onto University Blvd where the victim was struck in the area of Lazy Creek Drive.

Initial report is that several spend shell casings have been recovered, some of those being .380 caliber and some from what appears to be an assault rifle.

There is no further information at this time.  Again, the offender vehicle is described as a white Chevrolet Impala.

The Tyler Police Department is investigating this incident.  Anyone with information is asked to call (903) 531-1000.
