Approaching Severe Weather

A message from UT TYLER

The University of Texas at Tyler is issuing the following special weather advisory for students and employees of UT Tyler:

The National Weather Service indicates that severe weather is approaching the Tyler area, including severe thunderstorms and possible tornado activity. This is not an imminent threat, but severe weather is possible over the next few hours.

As of this time, the University is operating normally and all classes are continuing on schedule, but please monitor weather radios and media broadcasts for pertinent information. The City of Tyler or UT Tyler outdoor warning sirens may sound to indicate that severe weather has reached or is near campus.

Please be prepared to do the following before the severe weather strikes:

•    Ensure your safety and that of your family
•    Advise other students and/or employees of approaching weather
•    Backup important computer files
•    Turn off and unplug computer and other essential office equipment
•    Close and lock all doors and windows, and shut blinds
•    Secure labs
•    Move away from windows

If the City of Tyler or UT Tyler outdoor warning sirens sound or weather radios or other information indicate a tornado, move immediately to the designated tornado shelter area in your building and remain there until the ALL CLEAR is given by the proper authorities.

Information on the status of the University will be sent via e-mail, posted on the UT Tyler web site, and may be available through local media.

After the weather has passed, please check the area for injured persons or building damages.

END
